Local Control of Alcohol Policy and Practices
Date: Tuesday, January 10, 2023
Time: 10:00 to 11:00 am Pacific Time (1:00-2:00pm Eastern)
Description:
Join a discussion on how your city is working with state alcohol authorities on local policies. With the repeal of prohibition, states were given the authority to regulate the sale of alcoholic beverages. For almost a century, some systems have still governed the regulatory process, often hindering local authorities to determine how to best distribute licenses and address at-risk businesses in a timely manner. Communication and coordination are key, as well as more localized permitting systems for entertainment operating outside of the alcohol licensing realm.
Consider these questions in preparation for the discussion:
• Should cities have a local alcohol licensing process?
• How can local public safety agencies be more involved in venue compliance?
• How do you determine the appropriate density of alcohol licenses in a district?
